EV charging time calculator
How long will your EV take to charge?
Estimate charging time and home charging cost from battery capacity, start and target state of charge, charging power, and charging efficiency.

Estimate time and energy
Time ≈ battery energy needed ÷ (charging power × efficiency). Real charging can slow near high state of charge or because of vehicle and temperature limits.
Level 1 vs Level 2
Power is the biggest time lever.
A higher charging power shortens the estimate until the vehicle's onboard charger or battery becomes the limiting factor.
Why reality can differ
Charging power is not always constant.
Battery temperature, state of charge, vehicle limits, voltage, and thermal management can all change charging speed during a session.
Next question
What will that charging cost over a month?
Use your miles, efficiency, and electricity price to estimate ongoing home charging cost.
Energy divided by power is the starting point
Charging time depends on how many kWh you need and how many kW the car can accept.
A 7.2 kW home charger can theoretically deliver 7.2 kWh in one hour, but the vehicle, circuit, charger, battery temperature, and state of charge can all limit actual power. The result is therefore an estimate rather than a guaranteed finish time.
Charging slows near full
Maximum charger power may not continue to 100%.
EV battery-management systems can reduce charging power as the battery approaches a high state of charge or when temperature conditions require protection. This effect is especially noticeable with DC fast charging but can also matter in other situations.
Cost and time answer different questions
A faster charger can shorten time without changing the battery energy needed.
For the same trip and vehicle efficiency, the battery still needs roughly the same energy whether it charges slowly or quickly. Home electricity cost is driven primarily by wall energy and electricity price; charging power determines how quickly that energy can be delivered.
